If you ever been to the Caribbean , there’s a decent chance you’ve encountered some experience with rum. It happened to me for the first time about twenty years ago , while I visited a friend in the Dominican Republic. I didn’t know much about rum varieties at that time. After dinner, he opened a bottle of Bermudez 1852 Aniversario dark rum. Ever since, sipping on dark rum cocktail brings back memories of that trip. When I talked with my siblings about it, i realised that most had similar stories about various brands of dark rum.
There are dark rums from all around the globe , and most countries have their own dark rum cocktails that come with them. Which one is the best? I think only your tongue has the answer. It depends on your preferences. This article will give you a head start , separated into three categories :

All types of rum are usually made from sugar cane. It is what provides the sweetness. Unlike Gold and White rum, Dark rum is aged in oak casks. Also referred to as Black rum, the process is quite long , taking place in charred barrels. This is the origin of it’s thicker body, dark colour , and much stronger , sweeter flavour.
This aged rum is often consumed straight , or on the rocks as it is already rich in flavour. This doesn’t mean it can’t be mixed. On the contrary , it’s body and spicy essence is the key to bringing many drinks to a whole new level. It is also great for cooking but we’ll talk about that another day.

Jamaican Rum Punch
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz of Dark rum
- 1.25 oz of sparkling wine
- 2.5 oz of pinapple juice
- 2 oz of orange juice
- 1.25 oz of fruit punch syrup
- 0.25 oz of fresh lime juice
Step-By-Step
- Combine all ingredients into a big coupe glass filled with ice cube.
- gently stir.
- garnish with any desired topical fuits.
- Enjoy your Rum Punch.
Dark Rum Cocktails Recipe No 2 :
Old Fashioned
Ingredients
- 2.5 oz of dark rum
- 0.5 oz of sugar syrup
- 5 dashes of Angostura bitters
Step-By-Step
- Add 5 Ice cubes on an old fashioned glass.
- Pour the Angostura bitters and the sugar syrup.
- Stir until the ice cubes are coated.
- Pour the dark rum.
- Gently stir again.

Mai Tai
Ingredients
- 1 Oz Of White Rum
- 1 oz of Dark rum
- 0.5 oz of Cointreau Triple Sec
- 1 oz of Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.5 oz of Orgeat syrup
- 0.25 Oz Of Simple Syrup
Step-By-Step
- Combine all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with some ice.
- Shake.
- In a double old fashioned glass, Pour with a strainer over fresh ice cubes.
- Garnish with a Lemon slice.

- 0.75 Oz Of Dark Rum
- 0.5 Oz Of Blue Curaçao
- 3 Oz Of Orange Juice

- Half a banana

- 1.5 oz of dark rum
- 1 oz of coconut rum
- 3 Oz of coconut cream
- 5 Oz of Pinnaple juice

- Add 0.75 cup of crushed ice.
- Blend until you get a slushy consistency.
